Kingston, N.Y. – August 7, 2017 – The Benedictine Health Foundation will pay tribute to David Blakely at the 14th annual Bike for Cancer Care 5K Run/Walk to celebrate his tremendous passion for life, and gift of helping and inspiring others in our community
“David Blakely was widely recognized as a devoted family man, an avid Golfer and frequently the prankster. Throughout his life he actively participated in helping many charitable organizations and events. Close to his heart was the Bike for Cancer in which he participated with the Team of Amy’s YMCA Fireflies. This very close knit group of friends meant a lot to Dave. It has meant so much to our family to participate alongside them in his honor since his passing in July 2014 after a short battle with Cancer. Dave was extremely generous, always the person you could turn to for anything. Year after year we are overwhelmed to see how his giving nature continues to live on through his Family and Friends. The entire Blakely Family is greatly honored and thanks the Benedictine Health Foundation for choosing to dedicate this year’s Bike for Cancer 5K Run in his memory,” the Family of David Blakely.
The event will be held on Sunday, September 17, at Dietz Stadium in Kingston. The bike ride offers a 12-, 25-, and 50-mile route, a non-competitive 5K Run/Walk throughout historic Uptown Kingston, and a Kids Fun Run inside Dietz Stadium with supervised children’s activities for parents in the 5K.
Funds raised through the event will benefit the Foundation’s Rosemary D. Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund which provides financial assistant to local cancer patients while they receive treatment. More than 1,750 patients have received over $750,000 in financial assistance. For event details, to register or donate, visit www.bikeforcancer.org, or contact the Foundation office at (845) 481-1303.
